Thailand to Pressure Cambodia on Cross-Border Scam Crackdown

Thai police are set to meet with Cambodian counterparts on September 16 to hand over a list of over 60 telecom fraud dens, primarily located near the border, urging immediate action. Thailand views this as a critical test of Cambodia’s commitment to shedding its “scam haven” image, warning of escalation if cooperation is insufficient.

The crackdown aims to rescue thousands of trapped Thais, with authorities also addressing new trends like scammers shifting to Vietnam and using “SIM box” technology. Thailand further commits to identifying genuine victims from perpetrators and targeting domestic “mule accounts” to combat the widespread cross-border scam operations.
