Nepal Prime Minister Oli Resigns Amidst Violent Anti-Corruption Protests

Nepal’s Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli resigned amidst widespread anti-corruption protests that escalated into violent clashes, resulting in 19 deaths and hundreds of injuries, making it one of the country’s most severe political crises since 2008.

The unrest was initially fueled by the government’s ban on international social media platforms, alongside deeper public grievances concerning corruption and the suppression of free speech.

Despite the lifting of the ban and offers of compensation, public anger persisted, leading Oli to step down, citing a desire for “national stability” as the nation now faces a period of political uncertainty and a caretaker government.
