Nepal Anti-Corruption Protests Turn Deadly, Sparking National Outcry

Recent widespread youth-led anti-corruption protests in Nepal, sparked by public discontent over pervasive corruption and poor governance, escalated into violent clashes with security forces, resulting in at least 19 deaths, including schoolchildren, and numerous injuries.

The tragic loss of life, particularly among students, intensified nationwide anger, prompting the government to impose curfews and deploy security forces in Kathmandu. What began as peaceful demonstrations for accountability has evolved into a national movement, compelling the government to promise investigations into the killings and support for victims’ families, raising serious concerns about corruption, free speech, and the handling of dissent in the country.
