Cambodia Condemns Thai Military Violence Against Civilians, Calls for Release of Detained Soldiers

The Cambodian Human Rights Committee (CHRC) vehemently condemned the Thai military’s actions on September 17, 2025, in Prey Chan village, Banteay Meanchey province, where Thai soldiers reportedly used barbed wire, weapons, tear gas, and slingshots against Cambodian civilians, including monks, causing injuries.

The CHRC stated that these acts constitute a severe violation of human rights and numerous bilateral agreements, including the 2000 Memorandum and recent ceasefire accords. Emphasizing Cambodia’s commitment to peaceful and diplomatic solutions, the CHRC urged Thailand to immediately cease these provocations, respect international and regional laws, and called for the international community’s intervention to secure the unconditional release of 18 detained Cambodian soldiers.
